Hello everyone! Welcome back to my podcast, where we explore the movement of the sun and the Earth through the Human Design Chart and some shamanic wisdom to help us along the way. If you are new to this podcast or to the concepts of Human Design and Shamanism, please go back and listen to episode 0, where I set the stage for what we are discussing here. You can also read the introductory blog here for the same information if you prefer.
Today is May 27, 2025, and the sun is lighting up Gate 16 - the Gate of Zest - and the earth is highlighting Gate 9 - the Gate of Convergence. Before we get into what all that means, I just want to remind you that I am offering my Intro to Human Design class ONLINE via ZOOM THIS Sunday, June 1st at 2 pm Eastern time. This will be my 90-minute intro class coming to you in the comfort of your home, and there’s still time to register. So if you’ve been interested in learning more about Human Design but have been unable to make it to one of my in-person classes, this is a great opportunity for you. Now on to our energies for this week. Gate 16, the Gate of Zest, or the Gate of Skills in traditional human design, is all about mastery through repetition. It carries an energy of enthusiasm, but it can also be tainted with perfectionism. We may be enthusiastic about sharing our gifts or talents, but perfectionism may hold us back some. The challenge is to temper our enthusiasm by making sure we are prepared enough for whatever it is we are trying to do or create, but not to allow ourselves to become paralyzed by perfectionism.
Now, the theme of Gate 9, the Gate of Convergence, contains concentrated energy for detail-oriented work. It offers the power to focus energy on what matters and ignore distractions. Together, they make a powerful duo for developing deep competence in a particular area. Gate 16 wants to express or master a skill, and Gate 9 provides the intense focus needed to refine that skill over time. Gate 16 can sometimes lack the persistence to go deep without the grounding energy of Gate 9. Gate 9, in contrast, can bring the necessary focus to follow through on the passions that Gate 16 wants to perform. So this looks like another promising week of energy to be able to make progress on a goal you’ve been working on.
Add to this our New Moon this month, which is also happening today, May 27th, and also in Gate 16 with the sun. The energy of any New Moon generally gives us an extra shot of energy to start something new. It is a powerful manifesting energy. So this is a great week to meditate on what you want to manifest in your life right now. It is a great time to set your intentions for the month, or maybe even the year ahead. Write them down, maybe do some sort of New Moon ceremony in your own way. But between the sun and the moon both being in this Gate of Zest, you have extra planetary energy to bring in your desires and manifest your dreams. Take advantage of it!
On the Shamanic side of things today, I wanted to share with you the wisdom that comes from the moon. So I am going to read the Moon card from the Mystical Shaman Oracle deck by Alberto Villoldo, Colette Baron-Reid, and Marcela Lobos. Here it is:
Every 28 days, the moon manifests a steady progression from darkness to light, and then back again. This phenomenon in our skies has a powerful impact on our human psyches. It offers us the certainty that after periods of emptiness and darkness, there is a light waiting so we can be reborn into a new phase. This calls to mind a native African prayer to the moon: “May our lives be renewed as yours is.”
The moon also has a strong influence on the ebb and flow of waters on the Earth. This same power, in turn, affects human feelings and emotions and mirrors their rising from or hiding back into the unconscious.
The moon spends equal time in the dark as it does in the light of the sun, and now it comes to remind you of this balance. Have you been too focused on outer achievements, productivity, or social engagements? Or have you spent too much time hidden from the outer world, not wanting to interact or show your face? Meditate on the significance of the moon’s cycle, and let it gently guide you out of your bottomless depths. Head back to the world of outer expression and connection with others. Let it help you make time for yourself, your feelings, and your essential human and spiritual needs.
This card calls you to go on a journey of renewal, just like the moon does every month, so you can get unstuck, whether from a specific situation or life in general. For this you need to make time to be with yourself without the distractions of modern society, and have the courage to look at the unwanted or unembraced parts of your being until you arrive at a place of resolution. Shamanic lore explains that the finest treasures of humanity are hidden where people are most afraid to go.
So this week, I invite you to take time to go inside without distraction and really listen to your inner self. What do you want? What are you excited about? What are you ready to take on and manifest in your life? Write these things down and maybe say the simple native African prayer to the moon, “May my life be renewed as your is.” If you care to share your thoughts, I always welcome feedback via DM or email and would love to hear how this landed for you.
My next episode comes to you on June 2nd, when the sun is in Gate 35, the Gate of Experience, and the earth is in Gate 5, the Gate of Consistency. Until then, take good care, and we’ll see you soon.
